I meet five of you today. You are all so sad. When I meet you first you don’t feel like talking. I share my story and then some of you open up and share yours. The stories are sad but with a happy ending because you are still alive. It wasn’t your choice to live but you survived. You feel the pain, so strong and hard to bear. Every day you wake up only to feel it again and again. You wish it was over, you wish you could get rid of it and be ok even for a short while. You tell me there is no hope. You don’t believe you will ever smile again. I start talking, you don’t trust me. I ask questions, you find them hard to answer. I ask you to tell me about some happy memory you have. You can’t remember. I explain that it can be anything at all, simple and without a big meaning. I don’t mind. I just don’t believe you were born sad. Then you start talking. I can see this light in your eyes and then …it disappears you feel the pain again. I teach you how to create moments without pain. The moments may last only for a split second, but this is how we start, baby steps. You hear your friends talking and struggling with the same pain. You see the light in their eyes, the light of hope. You trust me now. You listen to me and do your best to stay with me in the moment.
Then! It’s
your turn to talk and you tell us about the memory of the biggest joy of your
life! You are on the stage, you are singing! The lights are on you, people look
at you, but you don’t care you just sing. And then you all want to feel this
moment. I ask you to sing in front of us. You agree. And then you start. We are
listening. We are smiling! Even you who
sit there in the corner and don’t say much, you smile too! And the angel voice
fills up our hearts. I am moved, we all are moved. You finish, we clap asking
for more. You agree! Whoever outside the room can hear you, is joining us
enjoying the happy moment. Do you feel it? The pain is gone! We are smiling and
the atmosphere in Therapy Room is just great.
This is our
happy moment! Keep it and remember that there is always hope, you can be ok
again! Life is painful but as one of you say without
feeling the pain you won’t feel happiness. Remember what we learned today, stay in
the moment and when the pain goes back think about our happy moments, think
about your happy moments.
